DIY Non-Toxic Roll-On Perfume

Who says smelling great has to be toxic? In my opinion, nature is one of the best perfumers. Don’t get me wrong, commercial perfumes can smell wonderful, but their artificial fragrances often give me headaches. Digging deeper can cause one to worry as well. Many perfumes and body sprays claim to be natural, but lab tests commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found 38 secret chemicals in 17 name brand fragrances, such as Coco Chanel (18 chemicals not listed), Britney Spears Curious (17 chemicals not listed) and Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio (17 chemicals not listed). The unnamed chemicals discovered in these name brand fragrances can include those associated with endocrine disruption and allergic reactions. Plus, it’s possible that these chemicals were not even assessed for safety in personal care products. Yikes!

If you’re like me after learning that, then sticking with nature seems to be a better bet, and it’s a lot easier  than you think. You can use organic, non-toxic essential oils to create the perfect signature scent. And, if you are strapped for cash or just want to be extra thoughtful and make some DIY holiday gifts, then why not create custom roll-on perfumes? Your friends and family will be sure to thank you.

Directions

-Prepare your essential oil synergy (20-30 drops) and add it to your glass roller bottle

-Continue to fill your 10ml roll-on perfume bottle with the following:
-7 ml fractionated coconut oil*
-2 ml jojoba oil

-Snap on the roller, label your perfume, shake it, and enjoy!

*Fractionated coconut oil is a colorless, odorless, liquid oil that has a very long shelf life and the perfect choice for perfume– it stays on skin longer and won’t go rancid, like Jojoba.

Here are some ideas for blends, but remember that scent is highly personal. Smell each oil individually, then smell it in a synergistic blend. Note what resonates with you and don’t be afraid to experiment. There are no rights or wrongs!
