Taking a trip to the spa is a relaxing, sensuous, and often expensive experience. Luckily, DIY body scrubs are an all-natural and special treat that you can use to pamper yourself. The best part about it? Most of these ingredients are ones that you might already have at home! To make this stimulating and energizing body scrub, you will need:
-Fine brown sugar
-Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) essential oil
-Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil
-Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) essential oil
-Mix the brown sugar and sea salt together in a bowl or cup.
-Add the jojoba oil to the mixture of salt and sugar.
-Create a 5% dilution synergy of the 3 essential oils in their own jar or cup—blend them together.
-After a few minutes, add the essential oil synergy to the salt, sugar, and jojoba oil mixture and seal it in an airtight jar.
-Enjoy and use the scrub when showering!
Keep in mind that a 1 oz. scrub may go by fairly quickly! If you want to make more, adjust the dilution rate of the oils to account for the extra salt, sugar, and jojoba oil. I recommend using this body scrub two times a week while showering, though it is safer to use it more frequently. Scrub the mixture all-over your body, but be sure to avoid your face. To get the full benefit of the detoxifying and lymphatic-stimulating properties, rub it thoroughly on under your arms near the lymph nodes. But if you’re looking to get rid of some cellulite, then rub it on those target areas!
So, you may be wondering why I chose these ingredients. Brown sugar is an excellent exfoliator, which evens out your skin tone, makes your skin soft and helps to release toxins, especially due to the glycolic acid which is found in sugar. And, sea salt, is a gentle exfoliator that also detoxifies your skin, has antiseptic properties, and improves circulation. For years, Jojoba oil has been used for acne to dissolve clogged pores and support the skin’s natural pH balance. Jojoba has natural anti-inflammatory properties and is a wonderful all-around skin care oil. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it is good for all doshas and can even prevent and reduce stretch marks!
While I encourage you to experiment with essential oils that resonate with you, the three that I’ve selected Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit), Citrus limon (Lemon), and Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) are my top choice for a lymphatic tonic and it has the most amazing scent! Grapefruit is an antidepressant, detoxifier, and stimulant. It has an uplifting smell and can aid sluggish circulation and sluggish lymph activity. In Traditional Chines Medicine, Grapefruit has the ability to ameliorate stagnant Qi-energy. Lemon is a powerful detoxifier and immune enhancer. The odor is sharp and refreshing leaving one feeling cleansed and mentally clear. Lemon is great to use with lymphatic congestion and if you feel toxically overloaded! In Ayurveda, lemon reduces excess kapha energy and provides lightness. Lastly, Eucalyptus is very safe to use on the skin and is an immuno-stimulant. It has a balsamic smell that complements the lemon and grapefruit citrus scents. Even adding some Tea tree can tonify Qi-energy in cases of chronic lethargy and poor circulation.
If nothing else, this makes a great DIY gift! Have you ever made your own body scrub?
